A busy day at work. Somebody managed to thoroughly screw up the settings on a server I work with. I share the management of this box with two other groups. This person was in one of the other groups and really had more power than was good for him. Three of us spent all day working on the system, finally getting it back in working order about 3:30 PM. To his credit, we got a very abject apology from the offender at the end of the day. No trouble from my own management--I had all of my (virtual) paperwork in order. Not the typical office New Year´s Eve. I had been expecting (and hoping for) a really dull day.

More computer stuff at home. I finished configuring Antrim, my primary workstation in my office space. Having gotten the physical desktop cleaned over the weekend I thought I should finish the virtual one. Also doing a little work for my job--downloading a SQL Server Service Pack for the office computer I have here at home.

It has been a good year for Linux in the Minnesota McDavid household. All of the Windows 98 systems are gone, replaced by Linux. Windows XP remains on my office computer--nothing I can do about that, and on the laptop James uses. On the other side we have three Linux machines--four if you count my little Nokia 770.

A busy day tomorrow. I will probably be asleep tonight well before the turn of the year. We may still be able to get WFMT´s Midnight Special over the ´Net, but it is not what it used to be in our Chicago days.
