With mallets toward none
plane, old tools, woodwork, galoot
A tree fell in mairi2's yard yesterday, damaging two other trees. mia_mcdavid helped clean up the mess and brought home a couple branches. The wood was bent and knotty, mostly destined for the firewood pile. However, I was able to make three pieces into mallets today:

I cut the top one out of a single piece of birch. The big one in the middle has a birch head, while the head of the smaller one is from mairi2's apple tree. The handles of the bottom two were dowels that I had in the shop. I used Gorilla glue to hold them together. The fresh birch and apple is quite wet, but Gorilla glue likes a little moisture.

There is still quite a bit of the inner bark on the birch. I may or may not take it off later; it does not affect the usability of the tools.
