Wouldn't they be ridiculously easy to shoot down?

With modern AA weapons, yes. But I don't think the Taliban have missiles that can reach 20,000 ft. Even if they got such weapons, they would need radar to aim them, which betrays its location in the very act of use.

Also, it is a robot. If some are lost, it is just money. Nobody's next of kin need be notified. Just like with the unmanned aircraft that currently being used over there.
