A few weeks ago I found an old saw at a garage sale. With some difficulty I could see the name "Disston" on it, so I handed over $4 and took it away. It was covered with rust:

So decided to remove the rust by electrolysis and set up the zap tank

on the back porch. I used a large trash can, but the saw is so long that I had to turn it over to get the whole thing de-rusted:

Afterwards I cleared the crud off with WD-40 and 0000 Steel Wool, and I could see the original etching on the blade. It was a Disston D-8 saw.

Next step: sharpening it.
